Last night's Oscars ceremony was highly emotional for me. As someone who has watched the awards show every year for most of my life, I've never cried this much. Maybe it was because the winners were humble, first-time winners, or underdogs. Or maybe it was because their work or talent moved or inspired me. Whatever the reason, the waterworks started when Key Huy Quan won Best Supporting Actor and reminded us not to give up on our dreams.
One film that truly inspired me was Everything Everywhere All At Once, which won seven well-deserved Oscars. It reminded me that anything is possible, and that we shouldn't be constrained by boxes and categories or limit ourselves by traditional conventions. Kudos to the Daniels for their direction, and congratulations to Michelle Yeoh for her historical win as Best Lead Actress, and to Jamie Lee Curtis for Best Supporting Actress. It's heartening to see women in their 60s being recognized for their amazing work in the film industry.
As a movie lover, I encourage everyone to see all the nominated films with an open mind, knowing that they represent the best work of a collaborative team of talented individuals. Movies have real power to transform our lives, as Harrison Ford pointed out during the ceremony. They can inspire empathy, reflection, and positive change.
One of the most empowering moments of the night came from Michelle Yeoh's speech: "Ladies, don't let anyone ever tell you you're past your prime." That's a message that deserves to be cheered!
Awesome to see Brendon Fraser win Best Lead Actor. The whole event was fabulous. Jimmy Kimmel was fantastic, the musical numbers were amazing. Loved Lady Gaga and her stripped down version of Hold My Hand (From “Top Gun: Maverick”). It was very moving. Just a really beautiful event.
On a personal note, I'm thrilled to say that Courtney and I correctly predicted the winners for Best Picture, Best Lead Actor, and Best Lead Actress in our recent podcast episode on the Oscars. Speaking of which, if you want to hear our top picks and predictions, be sure to check out that episode!
