In The Heights was so good! Reminded us of all the great musicals out there! See our recommendations below.
Musicals have a special place in my heart. I love music, movies and dance, so when these three things collide, it makes my heart happy! Music and Dance is another way to express how one is feeling when words aren't enough. As Bob Fosse said “The time to sing is when your emotional level is too high to just speak any more, and the time to dance is when your emotions are just too strong to only sing about how you feel."
Cannot wait for the new West Side Story in December 2021! Love the original movie! The story, lyrics, music and choreography are absolutely amazing! My most favorite scene is America! I was mesmerized by Bernardo (George Chakiris') dancing and Maria (Natalie Wood's) performance in this film and I look forward to seeing how these new actors/artists portray these roles.
One of my all time favorite musicals is Bye Bye Birdie with Dick Van Dyke and Ann-Margaret! I watched it as a kid and one my favorite scene's is when Kim (Ann-Margaret) and Hugo (Bobbie Rydell) first see each other after breaking up because of the "kiss" with Conrad Birdie. Check out this clip of "A Lot Of Livin' To Do' Dick Van Dyke and Janet Leigh are also great in this musical and the ballet scene is hysterical!
Grease is an all around great musical! Brittany and I talk about it during the podcast episode In The Heights. We discuss the scene with Danny (John Travolta) heartbroken at the drive-in singing to Sandy
